Your mainshaft’s sole purpose is to transfer power/torque from your transmission’s output shaft and distribute that power to your truck’s front and rear axles. If you notice difficulty shifting, grinding, vibrations, or difficulty switching between 2WD and 4WD, it might be time to replace your transfer case mainshaft or other corresponding components.
