Your input shaft is responsible for receiving power from the transmission and transferring it to the transfer case’s internal components, and distributing it to either of the axles, essentially acting as the connection point between your transmission and transfer case. There are a lot of signs for potential failure of an input shaft, most common being 4WD issues, odd noises, grinding, or being stuck in gear.
